Tradition & Philosophy of Hotel Sacher in Seefeld
Sacher History & Philosophy
What makes a house more than a hotel is seldom tangible. At Alpin Resort Sacher, it is the sum of lived tradition, Austrian hospitality and the unwavering pursuit of excellence. For over seven decades, this house has grown – in its history, its values and its standards. Get to know us.
Living tradition since 1950
From Tyrolean hideaway to the highest Sacher hotel
Some houses tell their story through their architecture. The distinctive M-shaped gable silhouette of Alpin Resort Sacher reflects the initial of the family name of Hilde and Fritz Mauthner, who in 1950 laid the foundation stone for a house with character with the purchase of Pension Britannia in Seefeld. A pioneering spirit, passion and the unshakeable belief that true hospitality never stands still have shaped this house to this day.
1928
How it all began
British national Henriette Clements acquires the first plot of land on the Geigenbühel. Plans are drawn up for an elegant country house featuring an English-style concert and tea room, as well as a stylish American bar.
1929
The Hotel Britannia
Henriette Clements opens the Hotel Britannia, the foundation of today’s Alpin Resort Sacher. From its first winter, it attracts an international clientele from business, aristocracy, and the arts.
1950
The new owners
Fritz Mauthner and his wife Hilde acquire Pension Britannia. Following an extensive renovation, it is transformed into ASTORIA, one of Tyrol's most modern and renowned hotels.
1953
Ahead of its time
With Tyrol’s first indoor hotel pool, the ASTORIA sets new standards. International recognition and its legendary pirate parties make the hotel famous far beyond the region’s borders.
1960 - 2000
Open to new ideas
Four decades of continuous development shape the ASTORIA. Renovations, expansions, and new ideas ensure its position as a stylish trendsetter in Alpine hospitality.
2003
Relax & Spa
A spa area of around 2,000 m² opens, featuring pools, saunas, and relaxation areas. The hotel evolves into the ASTORIA Relax & Spa Hotel, significantly expanding its wellness offering.
2015
Family-run
Elisabeth Gürtler, daughter of Hilde and Fritz Mauthner, takes over the ASTORIA Resort, continuing the family tradition. A natural swimming lake, infinity sports pool, and saline whirlpool expand the aquatic experience.
2019

Three houses united by one passion
The Sacher brand
For almost two centuries, the name Sacher has stood for the very best Austrian hospitality has to offer. In 1832, Franz Sacher created the Original Sacher-Torte and thus laid the foundation for a legend. From this culinary signature grew, over generations, a family that today runs three exceptional houses: Hotel Sacher Wien, Hotel Sacher Salzburg and Alpin Resort Sacher Seefeld. Each house has its own soul - all three share the same ethos: personal hospitality, uncompromising quality and the conviction that luxury has its deepest effect when it never imposes itself.
